VIBRANT 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION UNFOLDS IN BEKWAI, ASHANTI

The 67th Independence Day celebration in Bekwai, Ashanti was marked with grandeur and patriotic fervor at Gyamfi Park on March 6, 2024, under the theme "Our Democracy, Our Pride." Schools across the Bekwai South Circuit took part in this year’s parade, with a total of 1,860 contingents participating. The parade featured sixteen (16) primary schools, eleven (11) junior high schools, three (3) senior high schools, and one (1) technical school. Similar celebrations were also held at other circuit centers and various communities within the Municipality.

The event attracted a distinguished array of dignitaries, including Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bekwai, and Dr. Francis Owusu Ansah, Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD). The celebration was further graced by the esteemed Omanhene of Bekwai, the Bekwai District Police Commander, the Bekwai Zongo Chief Imam, the Bekwai Zongo Chief, heads of departments, and several Assembly Members.

Festivities began with a spirited March Past featuring selected schools, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the talking drum and performances by cultural troupes showcasing Bekwai’s rich heritage. The event blended traditional dances with modern choreography, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for all attendees.

Highlighting academic excellence, the ceremony included the presentation of the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Best Student Awards to two outstanding students, celebrating achievement and inspiring a culture of excellence within the educational community.

In his address, the MCE, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour, who represented the President of the Republic of Ghana, emphasized the theme "Our Democracy, Our Pride," urging collective responsibility in safeguarding the nation’s democratic values. His words resonated strongly with the audience, fostering a sense of patriotism and unity among the community.

As the celebration drew to a close, the 67th Independence Day in Bekwai was remembered as a testament to the community’s commitment to democracy, cultural heritage, and academic excellence, serving as a platform to reflect on Ghana’s journey and to inspire a shared vision for the future.
