The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) of Bekwai Municipal Assembly on Friday, 15th April, 2022 carried out mass education on the need for girl child education especially vocational education in Kortwia community of the Bekwai Municipality. Girl-child education is a catch-all term for a complex set of issues and debates surrounding Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Health Education in particular for girls and women. Denying the girl-child access to education implies making her a dysfunctional member of the society. Ghana has managed to rapidly increase girls’ enrollment in primary and secondary school over the last decades.

At the gathering, two officers from the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development undertook the sensitization and two main points were discussed. These are: the overview of Girl-Child Education and the importance of Girl-Child General Education and Vocational Education in particular.

They concluded that academic education is necessary in order to have the basics of education to build a foundation but schools should definitely consider implementing some vocational training to their students so they receive valuable career-related knowledge that will also restore the faith of parents who spend money on their children’s education.
