Some members of the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College on Wednesday, 17th November 2021 engaged the Heads of Department of Bekwai Municipal Assembly at the Methodist Church Conference Hall. The meeting was geared towards optimizing progressive co-existence for the socio-economic development of the country.
In his opening remark, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour expressed his gratitude for their visit and assured them of a cordial engagement between his office and the team. He encouraged all Heads of Department to freely engage them tactfully in order to attain a fruitful discussion.
Assistant Director of the Assembly, Ama Yinka-Donkor highlighted the structure of the Local Government Service. She continued by outlining the role of MMDAs and the traditional authorities towards sustainable development as well as the collaboration between them. She further detailed the challenges affecting their effective collaboration and some recommendations to overcome them.
In an open forum, several concerns were raised by the military officers mainly on the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement towards eradicating the negative effect of mining activities on natural resources such as land and water bodies and the people in the community.
The Heads of Department present contributed immensely towards addressing the concerns to the satisfaction of all participants.
The leader of the Ghana Armed Forces team expressed his appreciation to the Assembly, particularly the MCE, for the warm reception and enthusiasm towards his team. He encouraged the MCE to strengthen the collaboration between the Assembly and the traditional authorities by engaging them more expressively to champion development.
He presented a plaque to the MCE as a symbol of gratitude for the memorable and impressive reception exhibited by him.
In his closing remark, the MCE acknowledged the team’s appreciation and assured them that he will be guided by their counsel in the activities of his honourable office. He guaranteed them of his warm reception in further engagements.
