STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT ON LEAP REASSESSMENT IN BEKWAI MUNICIPALITY

On Tuesday, 14th January 2025, the District LEAP Implementation Committee (DLIC) convened a meeting at the Municipal ICT Center Conference Hall to discuss the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program and its reassessment. The meeting aimed to educate stakeholders on the program’s framework and deliberate on strategies to enhance its effectiveness and sustainability in the Bekwai Municipality.

The session was chaired by Ms. Sheila Rosetta Arthur, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), and was attended by key stakeholders from various sectors. These included the Municipal Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, the Municipal Planning Officer, the Municipal Health Director, the Municipal Education Director, the Municipal Agric Director, the Municipal Statistician, the Municipal Information Officer, the Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the Convener of the Social Services Sub-Committee, as well as representatives from the Rights and Responsibilities Initiative Ghana and Faith-Based Organizations in the Bekwai Municipality.

During the meeting, participants were provided with an in-depth understanding of the LEAP program, a critical social intervention designed to support vulnerable households across Ghana. Discussions centered on assessing the current impact of the program, identifying gaps, and proposing actionable recommendations to improve its implementation and reach.

In her address, Ms. Sheila Rosetta Arthur emphasized the importance of collective efforts in strengthening the program. She highlighted the reassessment process as a key step in ensuring that resources are allocated to those who need them most. Contributions from the various municipal departments and organizations highlighted the significance of a collaborative approach to addressing poverty and fostering sustainable development within the community.

As part of the way forward, the committee committed to adopting data-driven and inclusive strategies to tackle identified challenges. This engagement represents a pivotal step in bolstering the LEAP program’s impact on the lives of vulnerable populations in the municipality, paving the way for a more effective and sustainable intervention.
