The Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BMA) hosted a key stakeholders' engagement on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) reassessment initiative at the Municipal Assembly Hall. The event brought together a broad spectrum of participants, including the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Ms. Sheila Rosetta Arthur, staff of the Bekwai Municipal Social Welfare and Community Development, and LEAP focal persons from various communities within the municipality.

The objective of the meeting was to provide clarity on the government’s planned reassessment of the LEAP programme, which is designed to assist vulnerable households across the country. Ms. Arthur emphasized the importance of the reassessment in ensuring that the LEAP programme remains efficient, equitable, and responsive to the needs of its beneficiaries.

The discussion centered on the goals of the reassessment, which aims to refine the targeting process to ensure that the most deserving individuals and households receive support. LEAP, a flagship government poverty alleviation programme, has played a crucial role in reducing poverty by providing cash transfers to the poorest members of society.

Attendees were given the opportunity to engage in discussions, ask questions, and provide feedback on the implementation process. It is expected that the reassessment will help to address challenges and improve the programme’s impact on the lives of the marginalized populations it serves.

The engagement reflected the government's commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of its social protection programs and ensuring that they reach the most vulnerable populations across Ghana.
