On Wednesday, 23rd October 2024, the Bekwai Municipal Hospital hosted a free breast screening event aimed at raising awareness and providing early detection of breast cancer. This vital health service ran from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at both the New Bekwai Municipal Hospital and Old Bekwai Municipal Hospital.
It has become increasingly evident that many individuals, both men and women, are unaware of potential health issues with their breasts until they undergo screening. Unfortunately, this lack of awareness can result in late-stage diagnoses of breast cancer, which often leads to more complicated treatments, higher medical costs, and in some cases, death.
Breast cancer, however, is highly treatable when detected early, making such screenings an essential health initiative. In light of this, the general public—particularly women residing in the Bekwai Municipality—were strongly encouraged to participate in the free breast cancer screening and education programme.
The event not only provided crucial health checks but also educated participants on the importance of regular screenings and early detection as a key measure to combat breast cancer.
This initiative, part of an ongoing effort to improve public health in the region, serves as a reminder of the critical importance of early intervention in saving lives.
