On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Agric Department of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly visited dry season farmers in the municipality. The visit, which took place at Feyiase, aimed to familiarize the department with the activities and challenges of dry season farmers to inform planning and policy direction.
The initiative sought to bring together all agricultural extension officers in the municipality to gain insights into operations in dry season farming. It also aimed to project the Bekwai Municipality’s agricultural potential to the outside world, encourage and motivate dry season farmers, and explore market avenues for their produce.

During the visit, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Mensah, conducted training sessions for the farmers. Key topics included integrated pest management, the safe use of agrochemicals, fire safety education, machine maintenance, data collection, record-keeping, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for spraying. The initiative also sought to foster stronger relationships between farmers and agricultural extension officers in the municipality.

The visit highlighted the Oda Basin’s potential as a significant hub for maize and vegetable production, capable of serving major markets in Ghana near the Bekwai Municipality. This discovery opens opportunities for expanding agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of local farmers.

The exercise was attended by Mr. Emmanuel Mensah, the Municipal Director of Agriculture; Mr. Yaw Adjei Asante, the MIS Officer of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly; and staff from the Bekwai Municipal Agriculture Department.
This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly to improving agricultural practices, empowering farmers, and enhancing food security in the municipality.
