ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SANITATION UNIT MEETS STAKEHOLDERS ON ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION

Environmental sanitation issues are a challenge that many communities in Ghana of which the Zongo communities are of no exception to have been battling with.

Pertaining to these arising environmental sanitation issues, a team of Environmental Health Officers on Tuesday 23nd February, 2022 arranged a meeting with the Chiefs, the Assemblyman and other opinion leaders of the Bekwai Zongo Community to discuss the best possible ways to make the Bekwai Zongo Community one of the cleanest communities in the Bekwai Municipality.

The Assembly Member for the Zongo Community Hon. Eliasu Abubakar gave an open address followed by self-introduction by all the parties present.

The Imam of the community Mosque, Mr. Tijani in his address was honored by the respect given him by the office of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit and promised to offer any support to achieving this goal. He also promised to communicate every decision we will reach to his people when they go to the mosque.

An Environmental Health Officer (EHO), Mr Kyei Mensah Joshua gave an address on behave of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit and made them aware of the purpose of the meeting, their role and support in achieving all this important goal of a clean Zongo community.

He further entreated them to make their people aware and get a suitable place to keep their livestock because in no time the office will be coming for the arrest of the them if they are left astray.

The Kotokoli Chief of Bekwai Zongo, Mr. Osman proposed that the Environmental Health Officers are given some time on the Zongo information Center to health educate the people on these environmentally sound sanitation and hygiene practices after which those who falls deviant would have to face the rigors of the law.

The Bekwai Zongo Chief, Mr. Tijani Ahmed later proposed that they have scheduled a date for clean-up exercise and would like the Environmental Health Officers to partake which it was agreed.

A closing remark from Kyei Mensah Joshua and later Mr. Tijani were given; and the curtain was drawn on the meeting.
