Bekwai National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on Friday, 22nd May, 2022 embarked on a disaster prevention activity in the principal street of Bekwai Community. This action was meant to evacuate hawkers at the roadside which poses threat to commuters.
The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Bekwai Municipal Taskforce, the Works Department and the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit.
Prior to this exercise, intensive education and advice was given to the hawkers. Many heeded to the counsel and moved away from the streets while the belongings of the recalcitrant ones were impounded.
They were made to sign a bond of good behaviour after which their properties were released to them. The leaders of the market groups expressed their satisfaction to the team for ensuring sanity in the streets. They further requested that such an exercise is frequently undertaken by the team.
