The 65th Independence Day Anniversary was held at the Bekwai Gyamfi’s Park on Sunday, 6th March, 2022 under the theme “Working together, bouncing back better”.
In an address by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Kwaku Kyei Baffour that he read on behalf of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana, extended to all good wishes and felicitations on the occasion.
He said, he stands on behalf of the President who currently finds himself at the Cape Coast Stadium in the Central Region where the National Independence Celebration is being held.
In his Speech, he urged the pupils to emulate the sterling qualities of the country’s founding fathers towards building a prosperous nation. He therefore made it clear that, there is no need for any well-meaning Ghanaian to sit on fence and look unconcerned. It is time that we must all come on board to work together as one nation with a common destiny, so that we will bounce back in our struggle for economic emancipation and from this global crisis.
He also asked the school children to maintain the existing habits acquired under COVID-19 protocols to constantly wash their hands in order to be safe from the pandemic.
The Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Leticia Obeng, who commended the Assembly for numerous assistance over the years assured of all the teachers’ resolve to effectively collaborate in order to improve teaching and learning in the Municipality.
She gave thanks to the Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei-Wusu for his major role he had put in place in their education sector in the Municipality.
She also made mention of the school feeding program which was then introduce by the ruling government and its positive impact it has on the beneficiaries and how it has created jobs for some people in the Municipality.
She added, “Independence cannot be underestimated therefore it is our obligation to honor these heroes, but beyond that we are also obliged by our sense of responsibility to cultivate, sustain and ensure the effectiveness of the reasons for which they sacrificed their comfort and even their lives for the good of our country.”
At the end of the march past which highlighted the celebrations, Adankranja SDA Primary emerged the winners in the primary category, Bekwai Adventist Primary coming second and Bekwai R/C emerged the third position.
In the JHS category, Adankranja M/A JHS emerged first whiles Bekwai R/C JHS ‘A’ came second with Bekwai R/C JHS ‘B’ coming third.
With the SHS category Bekwai Wesley Senior High emerged the first position whiles Amoaful Vocational Technical Institute became second.
