Youth Parliament

The Bekwai Municipal Assembly Youth Parliament has been inaugurated in colourful ceremony on the Wednesday 13th January 2021 with high hopes from the youth to contribute to the development of the Municipality.

The Youth Parliament concept is an initiative by the National Youth Authority (NYA) to provide a single formalised youth structure at the district, regional and national levels for the youth to deliberate on matters of importance to youth development.

The Bekwai Municipal Member of Parliament (MP), Honourable Joseph Osei-Wusu, who graced the occasion expressed his optimism in the youth of the Municipality and called on them to take advantage of the many government policies and programs initiated.

He said the Youth Parliament concept is geared towards preparing the youth for future leadership.

In view of this, the Hon. MP advised the youth parliament in the Bekwai Municipality to contribute to decision making process and also sensitize their community members on how revenue or tax paying affect the country positively as well as the community in which they live. He went on to advise the youth not to talk against revenue mobilization when they are having a sitting at any time.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), on his part said the youth parliament is designed to be nonpartisan.

According to him, the idea of a youth parliament is to create in the youth a high sense of nationalism in order to bring out the rich ideas in them for the development of their respective metropolitan, municipal and districts.

The Speaker of the Bekwai Municipal Youth Parliament, Felix Osei-Poku said he is looking forward for a cordial working relationship between the youth parliament and Municipal Assembly for the desired development in the area.

“We are also expecting that the youth parliament should be in existence under successive governments,” he added.
