BMA ENGAGES STUDENTS FROM KNUST

On Friday, 18th February, 2022 the Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BMA) engaged some students from the Department of Geography and Rural Development of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the Bekwai Methodist Conference Hall. This is part of the students’ course to embark on an educational trip to enhance their scope of knowledge on the practical aspect of decentralization and local governance system practised in Ghana.

In his opening remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Assembly, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour expressed his appreciation to the staff and students of the school for selecting none other Assembly than Bekwai for such an educative activity. He assured the team of a fruitful engagement while encouraging the heads of departments present to deliver their utmost best in responding to questions from the students and staff of the school.

Subsequently, the Deputy Director of the Assembly, Mr Joseph Obeng systematically highlighted the Local Government System of Ghana as well as the constitutional provisions that eases the operation of the structure. He continued by mentioning some of the challenges that hinders the effective implementation of the Local Government System.

The students took turns to ask questions which sought to unleash how the theoretical concepts taught in the classroom are practised in the Bekwai municipality. The heads of departments supported by the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr Daniel Osei Asibey responded to them to the satisfaction of all present.

In his closing remark, the MCE iterated his excitement for the Bekwai Assembly to be selected for this field exercise. He further assured the school of his maximum support when necessary.
